  2002 VACATION-------7/22 through 8/10
(Back to Photo Album)

All loaded and ready to go!  We spent the first night in Hailey, ID after having dinner with my friend Viki in Bellevue.  We rode our bicycles from Hailey to Sun Valley (and back) on the great paved bike path.

View ofGrand Tetons, on our way to Riverton, WY where we spent the second night.

We drove over the Bighorn Mountains towards Sheridan, and rode our bicycles back up the other side, where the road was wider.

We spent the third and fourth nights at Addie & Loren's in
Sheridan, WY

Adelaide feeding the horses

"Junior" and Addie

Historic Sheridan Inn, leased by Buffalo Bill Cody

Sheridan Inn Hotel Desk

Porch of Sheridan Inn, where Buffalo Bill hired performers for  his Wild West Show

Loren took us on a hike
in the Bighorns, where his Boy Scouts were camping  that weekend.

Addie resting, still healing from a serious auto accident the previous March, and not the strong hiker she normally is.

Ken resting his fused ankle

Dianne, Addie, Loren
same hike--lunch break

Secluded lake in the Bighorns where we ate lunch

Old "Splash" Dam in the
Bighorn Mountains

Devil's Tower, WY, which Ken would have loved to climb!

Our own sundeck at a motel in Spearfish, S.D. where we spent three days and nights eating and riding our bicycles with the early Sturgis crowd.

We spent our last evening in Spearfish (a town we greatly enjoyed) at the Black Hills Passion Play

We drove on to my cousin Marsha and her husband Al's home in Huron, S.D.  This photo was taken from their front yard.

Al took us out for a great steak dinner.

Al came home from work to see us off the next day, and Marsha took me to her favorite shoe store.

Brent and Debby's driveway in the countryside of Odin, Minnesota.

"Lexi" with Debby.
We also met their second German Shepherd "Gunner", and "Toonces" the cat

After Brent took us on a tour of the area--where both Brent and Debby were born and raised--they fed us fresh barbequed Pacific Salmon

Enjoying the salmon and great company.

Dianne & Debby, both "veterans" of Graves' Disease and eye surgeries, and both NGDF facilitators.

We went on to Eagan, Minneota to see Bill and Mary Pat, who took us to their cabin at a lake in Wisconsin

We found out why everything is so green, as it rained hard the first day at the lake.   Bill introduced us to his famous "Manny", aka Manhattan

The rain stopped the second day, so after a super bike ride, we all went out in the kayaks to look at wildlife. Later we went for a ride in Bill's boat and took a swim in the lake.

This was living in the lake, and made it back to Idaho as  a dried flower.

Loading up to leave.

We followed Bill and Mary Pat  back to Minnesota.

The next morning we picked Jennifer up from the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport, and drove to the Aberdeen, S.D. area.  This is Glen and Sarah's house from a distance.

My niece Sarah and her husband Glen's 5-bedroom farmhouse on 8 acres.

My brother Alan and most of his family were waiting when we arrived.

Alan and Patricia with pregnant daughters Sarah and Gretchen

Alan's daughters Gretchen and Trina with Sarah's twins Rachel and Andie

Derek and Gretchen with Alan and Patricia

Jennifer with two cousins she doesn't see enough anymore.

Saying good-bye to Alan and Patricia, who are weeks away from returning to Siberia, where Alan teaches in a Lutheran Seminary

Goodbye to everyone.  Sarah gave birth to a son (Cody) not long afterward.

Crossing the Missouri River on our way west through South Dakota

Later that day we toured the Wind Caves, S.D.

We made it through all the Sturgis bikers on the roads to Mount Rushmore, which was a first for all three of us.

We were glad we made it to see this, even though we were warned it was a tourist area.

East side of the Bighorn Mountains, driving back toward Sheridan after spending a night in Gillette, WY

While driving through the Bighorns, we took Jennifer hiking off some back roads.

Jennifer and Ken on our hike

We found a bull moose very close to the road.  We drove on to Cody, WY and stayed there for the night.

The next day after visiting the Buffalo Bill Museum in Cody, we took Jennifer on her first trip through Yellowstone

Giant Geyser, Yellowstone

Morning Glory Pool

We were able to see Old Faithful "doing its thing".

Still in Yellowstone

We saw this eagles' nest when leaving Yellowstone.  After eating dinner in West Yellowstone, we ended up driving all the way home, since no motel rooms were available in eastern Idaho..
