    Our world is a hectic place: As they say, the devil is in the details. If it weren't for the details, we would be lost in the modern world. We need to follow the details of when to pick up the kids from day care, where your daughter's gymnastics competition is, how many tires need to be replaced on the Ford, how much seek time is too much on the new hard-drive, when the flight from Portland gets in, and where, when, and how tonight's supper will be made, eaten, and who will (or won't) be at the table (if there is a table).

    Our lives are fragmented: We shop at many different stores looking for a good deal. We have children bussed, driven, and walking to different schools on different schedules. We have community services competing for our minuscule hours of volunteer help. From work, school, and community we criss cross ourselves going so many directions at once. Multi-tasking used to be the realm of computer operating systems, now it is the way we speak about our daily living. We are fragmented, we are pulled, we are breaking under the strain.
